Design and installation of a pop up system

Achieving a stunning result with your popup irrigation system on your lawn and grass areas is easy if you follow our few simple guidelines and remember the old saying  poor planning leads to an unsatisfactory irrigation system!
If you like send us your plan and we will work out what you require.  We will require the dimensions and shape of your lawn and any flower beds you want included

The limiting factor is the amount of water that you have available for the pop ups to use. Simple systems are run from the mains but should incorporate a valve called a RPZ valve to fully comply with water board regulations but if any doubt please check with your local water authority board or look at www.wras.co.uk

The main problem with the mains is the fluctuating nature of the mains and the limited nature in terms of flow and pressure. We prefer it at all possible to come from a pumped source and a tank so that we have a known flow and pressure and then we can guarantee that your pop up irrigation system will work to specification and give you full satisfaction keeping your grass green what ever the weather. In all our years the disappointments associated with pop up sprinkler sytems have been due to limited water pressure or flow.

CHOOSING YOUR SPRINKLERS

  • For small lawn areas requiring a throw of 2 to 5 metres the Colibri and Gardena S80 are very good. If want to mix and match with other sprinklers the Gardena T50. Also Rotator 1000
  • For lawn areas requiring a throw of 4 – 6 metres the MP Rotator 2000 nozzles.
  • For medium lawn areas with a limited water source The Toro Mini throw 4 to 10m or
  • For medium lawn area with a good water source the MP rotator 3000 throw 6 – 9m or the Gardena T200 5 – 8m.
  • For large turf areas Toro Medium throw 50 XT 6.5m to 15m or if wish to maintain an element of matched precipitation the Toro Adjustable flow V1150 5 -16m or the Gardena T380 6 – 11m

Work out how many sprinklers you require

Draw the required grass area to scale, photocopy then experiment with a set of compasses until the arcs are drawn. You are trying to cover every area from two sprinklers but do not worry if small areas only get covered by one and by the nature you will find some areas will get far more. You are trying to cover "head to head" where one sprinkler reaches the next popup or slightly throws over it.

You will need a friend for this one. Get a string and pegs. On your lawn, using the string set at the expected throw of the sprinklers use it to "draw out" the expected coverage of the sprinklers. Alter the position of the arc and the sprinkler positions so you have covered all the area that you want to cover. Again you are trying to achieve a "double coverage".

Step 2 - When you have worked out the amount of pop up sprinklers you will need to cover your lawn, check the specification i.e the amount of water that will be used. E.g.

  • Sample 1 - 4 x 2000 Rotators @ 360° 4 x 2000 Rotators @ 180° = a total flow of 33 litres per minute. If the water coming is 18 litres per minute will then have divide the area in to 2 zones. Each zone must not exceed 18 litres per minute.
  • Sample 2 - 3 x Toro TR50 XT at 7m 2 x Toro TRX50XT at 9m = a total flow of 15.5 litres per hour so at 19 litres per minute can be done as one zone

If coming from a limited water source do not skimp on the zones as once you have installed it all it is very difficult to re-do the amount of pop up sprinklers on each zone.

Or fill in our line quotation request form and send us the plan and we will do it for you giving you a detailed quotation with all the parts required.
