Pop ups tend to bring out the child in all of us and years later, even to a cynical old irrigation engineer, there is a sense of fun and amazement as they pop out through the lawn.

We stock all the major commercial manufactures including Toro, Hunter, Nelson, as well as the main European garden specialists including Gardena and Claber.

Pop ups come in two distinct varieties

Spray nozzles for smaller area  popup songle jet

The water in these spray out in an all round pattern, either as a fan spray or a series of jets that rotating around.  Used mainly in smaller areas with a throw up to 6m.  The modern Rotator type use water very efficiently.   Normally available in a 90° to 360° pattern. The throw can also adjustable.

Single jet for larger areas and limited water supply.

As the name suggets a single jet is used which rotates around. Throws from 8 up to 18m depending on model. Arc is adjustable from 45° to 360°. Throw can also be adjusted to suit.

But we do have a couple of specials up our sleeve for the right occasion. Like the Gardena range for doing small gardens exactlly.

We carry a wide range of products and we are often asked why we have to have so many?

It's Simple                                                                                                                                         1) We like to have the right product for the correct situation using the minimum amount of water to enable healthy  growth.  2) We do not like to let old customers down so keep the spares in-stock to make sure their system does not become obsolete. 3) Have replacements for people who are using us now after changing suppliers. 4) Many people like to have one branded product for all their system knowing that parts will always be available and certain that they are buying a trusted and well known brand like Gardena and Claber.

THE VOCABULARY!

There are several expressions we use when talking about pop ups and to explain some of them :-

Head to head – this is how the pop ups are positioned in a line. The throw of one should at least reach the next sprinkler.

The throw - this is how far the pop up can reach, also known as the radius. Beware some quote figures as the diameter to make their sprinklers sound better but only to those who think big is best!

The arc - how much of a circle that the sprinklers cover is given in degrees so if your maths is a little rusty you may need to get out your protractor!

The specification - This is an expression that compares the throw, how much water the sprinkler is consuming, usually in litres per minute and at what pressure ( bar or metres). The higher the pressure the further it will throw but beware to high a pressure leads to misting of the water and poor distribution

Zones - The area you wish to water may be too large to water all at once so the total area is split into zones.

Pop up height - This is the distance the sprinkler will pop up out of the ground when operating. Usually 4” but also commonly available is 12” this is often used to get over obstacles such as shrub borders, walls etc. Remember that a pop up of 12” must be buried in the ground 12”. For roof gardens and other area with little depth for burial we also do a 2” model.

Pressure compensation - This is a device that is placed in the bottom of the pop up body that will take into account that the pressure reduces as you go down the line. Over a long distance the pressure loss down the pipe will affect the performance of the sprinkler. If you think you may need this call us for advice.

Matched precipitation - This is what in an ideal situation we are striving for in that all the area gets the same amount of water. In theory when set at 180° the sprinkler will but on ½ the amount of water as 360° and a nozzle throwing 6m will put on 55% less than a nozzle throwing 9m. The MPR Rotators are the best example of this but nothing is perfected yet.
