Two members of our company have worked and lived in countries where water is literally the difference between life and death which concentrates the mind to ensure water is not only used efficiently but just how precious a resource water is.
Luckily we live in a country where water is an available resource. Our water resources are rivers, lakes, reservoirs and underground supplies (aquifers) commonly called groundwater. Naturally all groundwater derives from rainfall and therefore should be used in the most efficient manner possible. It is for this reason that we source and utilise the most efficient products available.
Nowadays consideration should be given to utilising and storing this natural commodity ‘Rainwater’ which has required a relatively new term of ‘Rainwater Harvesting’ when in fact we have many sites which already collect rainwater in soft water wells constructed during the Victorian period.
The ultimate ‘Rainwater Harvesting’ is a shallow borehole or well tapped into overlying sands and gravels, as this aquifer is recharged directly and relatively quickly by rainfall. Many parts of the UK have ideal ground conditions to support a well or borehole for garden and household use. Incredibly 4400 gallons (20 cubic meters) per day can be legally abstracted without a licence, so why not take advantage of this precious resource available beneath our feet.
